****Friends Race Cars****

Here are some fine examples of Pontiac Race cars-

Dil Brandow's blown '66 GTO

Dils GTO has been featured in High Performance Pontiac magazine.  It is now lettered and running Enderle fuel injection on top of the blower.

As of April '08, Dil writes-   Here's some of the latest changes to the 66:

Kauffman Block MR-1 4.350, Crower billit crank 4.500, Kauffman High Port Heads ported by Jeff Kauffman, offset shaft rockers, Comp solid roller, Ross dish pistons, GRP rods, Fabricated oil pan, Jess Tyree zoomies, Hampton 871 blower, Enderle 110 mechanical fuel pump, Enderle Big and Ugly injector, TH400,UltraBell, Neal Chance 10" converter, 1960 Big Pontiac rear end, 35 spline spool, Moser axles, QA-1 double adjustable shocks, Anti roll bar, 4 link, 84" wheelie bars, Simpson parachute.  I painted the car in my garage, and just upgraded the chassis for 7.50 certification by adding a funny car cage. First pass down the track with the new Kauffman 535 at 1 to 1 drive with 8lbs of boost was an 8.76 at 155mph. Yee Haw Baby!

We are happy for you Dil and wish you the best!  Keep us posted of your progress. Congrats on your 8 second ride with Kauffman power.

Tim Corcoran's 10 second '65 Lemans

Tim won bracket 1 at Pontiac Heaven Drags and more III several years back. His bottom end is the same combo as before with  a 455 w/ Eagle rods, J-E pistons, Ultradyne cam, 1050 Holley, MSD 6AL, TH-400 W/4200 stall 10" Continental converter, 12 bolt rear w/ 3.73s and 28x10.5 tires.

Now Tim reports "Edelbrock-heads from S&D performance, Victor manifold, Indian Adventures 1-7/8 headers and Flowmaster 4-2-1 collectors".

Best 1/4 time so far is 10.52 @125.77 mph

Tim has decided to put the Chevy eater plates back on his car.

Tim says-  "The Chevy Eater plates are on the car and staying there because the car eats Camaro's, Nova's and Chevelle's with bow tie small or big blocks for breakfast".

Also, this is the same basic engine that has been in this car for over 12 years.  Have changed the rings, cam, heads and headers and have a new cast crank in it but other than that the same engine and still going strong.  That's Pontiac power!!!

***Clint and Charlie Haskins 8 second '69 Judge***

The Haskin family are real Pontiac people.  Clint was nice enough to send me some specs on this car.  It is a full tube chassis with a Dana 60 rear with 4.10s, strut front end and funny car style cage.  Rear tires are M/T 16x33s and weight is 2710lbs.  The motor displaces 512 inches and uses a '76 400 block, M/T 4.6" stroker crank, 6.7" alum Super Rods, Ross pistons, Edelbrock heads, an Ultradyne cam, 1050 dominator carb on gas.  Best times with this combo has been 8.79 157 mph w/a 150 horse N2O and 9.17 w/o.  Already the set up has been upgraded with a Hogan's sheet metal intake and two fuel injection Terminators from Ron's injection.  Clint is looking for mid to low 8's with these upgrades and I wouldn't doubt him!  This one of the fastest Pontiacs in the west.

Neil Smedley's '81 Turbo T/A

It may seem a little funny to have a 301 turbo featured as a race car here but, read on!!  Neil built this car with one thing in mind, to win! It does just that, this car has the distinction of winning the NHRA national event this year (2001) at Las Vegas and now holds the national record in ET and MPH!  You may expect to read about how he put this combination together years ago and has worked on it for years to get it just right and it has now paid off, after all, that is what it takes to be a winner in NHRA right? Wrong, Neil put this combo together in the fall of 2000 and it only took a few outings to be a winner.  He picked a combo that was overlooked and capitalized on it.  Congratulations on your success!!

Network Alignment's '64 GTO

Network has recently installed a blown injected 455 and will be working on dialing this combo in  Wow!

Bill Takanabe's '65 GTO

Yet another very serious Pontiac race car on this page is Bill Takanabe's  acid dipped '65 GTO with 'glass front end, bumpers and deck lid!  Based in California, Bill's car features an Alston chassis with Strange struts, spool and rear housing that holds a 4.30 and is mounted via a 4 link set up.  The trans is a 1.96 low power-glide with brake and a TCI 4500 converter.   The engine powering this 8 second ride is an Indian Adventures displacing 541 inches and has a Moldex billet crank, Ross pistons, Oliver rods, Edelbrock wide port heads with T&D shaft rockers, a custom sheet metal intake with 2 methanol toilets, MSD w/ crank trigger, BOP belt drive and much more.  This car is now solidly in the 8 second bracket and without N2O or blower!

Keith Schnabels 9 second '68 Firebird

Keith is part of a whole family on REAL Pontiac diehards.  They have sent me some very interesting emails about some of the cars they have owned and built, some are featured here on this site.  On Keith's Firebird, he's running a 462 Pontiac with Edelbrock heads, in an all steel 3,446 lbs.(+/- w/driver), 10" slick, non tub, full interior & street drivable (not often though), doing a career best of 9.92 @ 136.33 mph.

Bill & Rod Alexander's

Pontiac AA/FD "Shudderbug"

This Recreation has just been completed and is just beautiful!  The original   "Shudderbug" was a very successful Blown Pontiac dragster that was built in 1958 and ran on gas until 1962 when it was switched to run on nitromethane.  This car held many track records in southern California and went as fast as 8.02 and 189 mph before it crashed and was destroyed at San Fernando Raceway in the spring on '63.  The original Pontiac engine was saved and is used in this recreation shown here at its debut at the California Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield in Oct '02.  The 389 runs a 1/2" stroker for a displacement of 450", wheelbase is 92".  More to follow.  Bill plans to run this car in 2003.

As far as I know, Paul, the Alexanders and myself are the only ones who own a blown Pontiac dragster.  Are there any others?  If you, or if you know of anyone else who has a blown Pontiac in a dragster, Please let me know.
